Produzione per vitigno e valore delle uve – Provincia di Trento 1999-2006
Le vacanze servono anche per fare un po’ di ricerca di nuovi dati da elaborare e inserire sul blog. Una delle cose trovate e’ relativa all’andamento della produzione di uva e del valore per vitigno della provincia di Trento. Puo’ sembrare un argomento iper-specialistico, ma mostra come nell’arco di 5-6 anni la base ampelografica di una provincia possa cambiare quanto c’e’ un forte sbilancio tra il valore di un tipo di uva e un altro. In questo caso, potremmo chiamare questo post: il declino della Schiava (e in parte dei vitigni rossi) lascia spazio ai vitigni bianchi, come Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco e Chardonnay. Come mai? A partire dal 2003, produrre uva bianca ha reso il 30% in piu’ (per quintale di uva) che nel passato, se le statistiche dell’Annuario della provincia di Trento sono corrette. E il valore di un quintale di Pinot Grigio e’ oltre il doppio di un quintale di Schiava. Ecco quindi che in un mondo razionale la produzione di Schiava passa da 150k/q del 1999 a 60k/q nel 2006 e quella di Pinot Grigio cresce da 150k/q a 250k/q…
The holidays are also useful to look for new data to be produced and put it on the blog. One of these is the volumes and value of grapes output for the province of Trento. It could look like a hyper-specialized topic, but it shows that on a time frame of 5-6 years the grape production of a province can change if there is a strong imbalance among the value of different grape varieties. We might call this post: the decline of Schiava (and some other the red grapes) leaves room for white grape varieties such as Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay. Why? Starting in 2003, producing white grape has made 30% more (per quintal of grapes) that in the past, if the statistics of Annuario della Provincia di Trento are correct. The value of a quintal of Pinot Grigio is more than twice as much as a quintal of Schiava. Thus, in a rational world the production of Schiava moved from 150k/q in 1999 to 60k/q in 2006 and Pinot Grigio grew from 150k/a to 250k/q…
I numeri parlano chiaro: il Trentino si sta gradualmente specializzando nella produzione di vini bianchi, con il trio Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio e Chardonnay, cui si aggiunge il Muller Thurgau in rapida crescita. Per dirla in numeri, nel 2006 si e’ prodotto 767k/q di uva bianca, il 22% in piu’ che nel 1999 e 459k/q di uva rossa, l’8% in meno. La produzione va dove c’e’ valore, cioe’ dove il mercato paga: nel 1999 un quintale di uva rossa valeva mediamente 94 euro, nel 2006 (dopo varie oscillazioni) si e’ tornati al punto di partenza: 95. Nel caso delle uve bianche, invece, partendo da 92 euro al quintale il valore e’ cresciuto (anche qui con oscillazioni) fino a 125 euro nel 2006. Mediamente la produzione di uva bianca ha reso circa il 30-40% in piu’ al quintale di quella di uva rossa.
The numbers are clear: Trentino is gradually specializing in the production of white wines, with Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay, to which we would add Muller Thurgau in rapid growth. To put it in numbers, in 2006 Trentino produced 767k/q of white grapes, 22% more than in 1999 and 459k/q of red grapes, 8% less. The production goes where value is: in 1999 a quintal of red grapes was paid 94 euros; in 2006 (after several up and downs) it was back to 95. In the case of white grapes, starting from 92 euros per quintal the price rose (again with fluctuations) ending up at 125 euros in 2006. On average the production of white grapes has about 30-40% premium price than that of red grapes.
E il valore segue di conseguenza: secondo lo studio, la produzione di uva bianca ha superato i 95m di euro nel 2006 (rispetto a 58m nel 1999), mentre quella di uva rossa e’ scesa tra il 1999 e il 2006 da 47m a 43m di euro.
The value follows: according to the study, the white grape production has exceeded 95m euros in 2006 (compared to 58m in 1999), while that of red grape fell between 1999 and 2006 from 47m to 43m euro.
Le conseguenze sui vitigni sono chiare: le uve rosse sono in declino, soprattutto per l’abbandono della Schiava (forse gli nuoce anche il nome?) e del Lambrusco. Va detto che alcune produzioni autoctone (Marzemino e Teroldego) vanno bene e hanno prezzi molto superiori alla media delle uve rosse (150eur/q contro 95 medio), al pari del Pinot Nero. E’ poi piuttosto curioso notare come il vitigno rosso leader in Trentino sia diventato il Merlot, passato da 104k/q a 126k/q tra il 1999 e il 2006, per quanto il suo valore sia gradualmente calato (fino a 58eur/q nel 2006).
The consequences on grape production are clear: red grapes are declining, particularly Schiava (perhaps the name meaning “slave” is damaging?) and Lambrusco. It must be said that some indigenous production (Marzemino and Teroldego) are fine and are priced well above the average of the red grapes (150eur/q vs. 95), similarly to Pinot Noir. It is rather curious to note how the leading red grape variety in Trentino is still Merlot moving from 104k/q to 126k/q between 1999 and 2006, although its value is gradually decreased (to 58eur/q in 2006).
Le uve bianche invece sono in crescita grazie al gia’ menzionato Pinot Grigio, ma anche al Muller Thurgau (da 71k/q a 100k/q tra il 99 e il 2006), il boom del Traminer (da 3 a 21k/q. Resta la leadership assoluta del binomio Chardonnay-Pinot Bianco con 355k/q, lo stesso valore di 7 anni prima.
The white grapes are growing thanks to Pinot Grigio, but also to Muller Thurgau (from 71k/qa 100k/q between 99 and 2006) and to the boom of Traminer (from 3 to 21k/q). The absolute leadership is Chardonnay-Pinot Blanc with 355k/q, the same level of 7 years before.

Molto interessante, interessante sarebbe anche sapere la differenza percentuale di remunerazione dei vitigni della valdadige veronese che per varietà( che sono identiche) clima e sistemi di coltivazione non sono da meno,anzi qualche volta il contrario, ma essendo classificata in zona c2 vale “politicamente meno”

Caro Leonardo, purtroppo i dati che abbiamo sono quelli delle camere di commercio e nessuna pubblica cose uguali alle altre. Direi che quella di Trento brilla per completezza (e costanza nel tempo) dei dati, anche se alcuni numeri restano comunque delle stime.
