Produzione e superfici

ISTAT ha pubblicato i dati definitivi riguardo al 2005 e, in particolare, ha inserito le superfici vitate e totali, fino ad ora non disponibili nemmeno a livello di stima.
Dunque, i dati mostrano le seguenti tendenze a livello italiano:
– la superficie totale in produzione nel 2005 e’ salita leggermente a 683507 ettari, circa 5000 ettari in piu’ del 2004;
– il 2005 e’ stato il primo anno dopo il 2001 (+3000ha) in cui la superficie vitata e’ salita;
– la superficie totale ha subito lo stesso andamento, tanto che gli ettari ricompresi nella superficie totale ma non considerati "in produzione" sono rimasti quasi invariati a 35362 ettari (36477 nel 2004)
Conclusione: non capisco bene dove sono finiti i xxxxx ettari che dovevano essere espiantati… sono stati compensati da nuove autorizzazioni all’impianto?… chi ci capisce si faccia avanti!

ISTAT published the final figures for the Italian 2005 vintage, including the final data for the areas, which were not available up to now.
Data shows the following trends:
– total area in production in 2005 grew to 683507 hectars, roughly 5000 ha more than 2004;
– 2005 has been the first year after 2001 (+3000ha) in which area grew;
– total area grew with the same trend. The gap between the total area and the area which is actually producing was unchanged at roughly 35000 ha.
Conclusion: where are the xxxx hectars which were expected to be cancelled following the EU actions…. have they been compensated by new authorisations… if you understand more than me, please explain!

Avvertenza: trattasi di viti per uva da tavola e uva da vino (non rilevante salvo che in Cile, USA, Brasile, Turchia, Cina e Marocco…). Seconda nota metodologica: in tutti i grafici le superfici si devono intendere in MIGLIAIA di ettari, quindi 7955 sta per 7955000 ettari. Two remarks to read this: first it refers to both vineyards for wine production and for grapes production (however, except for Chile, US, China, Turkey, Brazil and MOrocco most of vineyards are for wine…). Second: all figures with no specified measure are thousand hectars.

Partiamo con i grandi numeri: poco meno di 8 milioni di ettari coltivati, di cui 4.7m in Europa (3.5m nella "vecchia" EU), 1.6m in Asia, 1m in America, 0.4m in Africa e 0.2m in Oceania. Bene diciamo che nel 2003 circa 3 milioni erano concentrati in 3 nazioni: Spagna, Francia e Italia. Mentre "soltanto" 157000 in Australia, 211000 in Argentina, e 185000 in Cile, comunemente riconosciute come tra le piu’ minacciose fonti di importazioni di vino. Negli ultimi 15 anni la superficie vitata e’ scesa del 10% circa.

First, the big numbers, just less than 8 million hectars planted, of which 4.7m in Europe (3.5m in the "old" EU), 1.6m in Asia, 1m in America, 0.4m in Africa and 0.2m in Oceania. Well, in 2003 nearly 3m were concentrated in Spain France and Italy, while just 157000 were in Australia, 211000 in Argentina, 185000 in Chile, which are usually mentioned as the most aggressive exporters in our markets. World vineyard area decreased by 10% in the last 10 years.

Vi posto i numeri relativi ai contributi all’espianto della vite che l’UE ha approvato ad ottobre 2006. Si tratta di un programma di 6 anni per 2.4 miliardi di euro. Per quanto riguarda l’Italia si tratta di contributi di poco meno di 100m di euro annui, che corrispondono all’espianto di 13000-14000 ettari all’anno, circa il 2% della superificie vitata ogni anno.

These are the key figures of the EU contribution to reduce vineyard area in a program of EUR2.4bn for 6 years. As far as Italy is concerned, it is about EUR100m on a yearly basis, corresponding to the "cut" of 13000-14000 hectars on a yearly basis, or 2% of the total surface every year.

I dati definitivi del 2005-06 seguono nella tabella e sono esposti nei grafici successivi: 449 milioni spesi, 160m in Spagna, 109m in Francia, 97m in Italia. 81% in queste tre nazioni, 22% in Italia in termini di valore. In termini di ettari espiantati, il 37% in Spagna, il 23% in Italia, sempre il 79% nelle 3 nazioni. Altrimenti scritto: quasi 9000EUR/ha in Francia, circa 6600EUR/ha in Italia.

The definitive data for 2005-06 campaigns are in the table and in the following graph. EUR449m budget, of which 160m in Spain, 109m in France, 97m in Italy. These three countries make up 81% of the total budget, Italy represents 22% of the value. Looking at hectars, Spain accounts for 37%, Italy 23%. Still 79% of the surface in 3 countries. The graph also shows the contribution per hectar, which is higher in France at 9000EUR/ha, while it stands ta 6600EUR in Italy.

Completiamo la review dei dati europei relativi al bilancio del vino con qualche considerazione sui consumi e sulle scorte. Forse la cosa piu’ interessante e’ la suddivisione dei consumi pro-capite nell’unione, che e’ stimata nel 2006 a 16.4 litri di vino da tavola, 15.1 di VQPRD. A differenza di quanto constatiamo a livello italiano e francese, qui i consumi sono in leggera crescita e si pongono su un livello di circa 31-32 litri, cioe’ circa il 30-35% in meno rispetto ai valori italiani.

We complete the review of the European wine "balance sheet" by giving a look to the consumption and inventories trend. One of the most interesting ones is the pro-capital consumption in EU, which is for around 16 liters of table wine and 15 liters of quality wine. The gap with France and Italy is clear (30-35% lower, being at around 31-32 liters), while the trend is flat or slightly growing.

Dalle statistiche sulla viticoltura si ricavano sempre due diverse versioni della superficie adibita a vigna: quella totale e quella vitata. La differenza dovrebbe essere (correggetemi se sbaglio) data dalla differenza tra la vigna in produzione e quella autorizzata ma non in produzione. Per quanto riguarda l’Italia si tratta di circa 29000 ettari, pari a circa il 4% del vitigno totale secondo i dati ISTAT del 2003. I numeri 2004 sono gia’ disponibili ma non ancora completi.
Ma dove si trovano questi 29000 ettari? Quali sono le regioni (o province) dove ci sono le maggiori "sacche" di vite non in produzione?

Statistics about wine always report two different vesion of area planted with vineyards: the area "in production" and the total area. The difference should be attributable to the vineyards (or the rights to plant it) which are not producing grapes. In Italy this area is 29000 hectars, equal to 4% of total area acocrding to 2003 ISTAT figures. Where are these areas?
