Come promesso completiamo l’analisi della Nuova Zelanda con i vitigni. Con quale conclusione? I produttori si stanno focalizzando sul Sauvignon, che e’ quello con piu’ successo, ma nei prossimi anni un 30% dei nuovi impianti attesi (3600 ettari) saranno dedicati al Pinot Grigio e nero.
We complete the analysis of New Zealand by giving a look to the breakdown by grapes. What conclusion? They have clear in mind what’s importanto to plant (Sauvignon), but they also give a look to the consumption trend, so that roughly 30% of the 3600ha to enter in producion will be Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.

La Nuova Zelanda e’ al terra del Sauvignon che rappresenta il 39% dei 22616ha piantati, seguita dal Pinot Nero con il 18% e dallo chardonnaly con il 17%.
New Zealand is the land of Sauvignon, which represents 39% of the 22616ha planted, followed by Pinot Noir with 18% and Chardonnay with 17%.

Molti si chiederanno perche’ questo post sulla Nuova Zelanda. Elenco (numericamente!) i motivi: (1) hanno un servizio statistico eccellente e tempestivo; (2) hanno una struttura del settore vinicolo giovane, dinamica e che si muove nella direzione che sarebbe auspicabile anche per noi; (3) mi sanno simpatici.
Many of you might ask me why a deep review on New Zealand. This the "numeric" sequence of reasons: (1) the have a fantatstic statistical service; (2) they have an enviable sector structure: young, dinamyc and moving in the same direction which we would like to take; (3) this is a country that I like.

A parte gli scherzi, la nuova Zelanda con i suoi 22mila ettari di vitigno (cioe’ meno della meta’ del Piemonte, circa come la Lombardia o il Lazio) e’ un esempio sotto tutti i punti di vista, salvo forse uno: che non producono per il loro mercato nazionale ma per il nostro. Grande crescita della superficie vitata: +13% anno negli ultimi 10 anni.
More seriously, New Zealand has just 22k/ha (roughly like Lombardy or Lazio, less than half of Piedmont), but is an example on all points of view, except one: they do not produce for their national market but more and more for our markets. Vineyards are growing quickly at 13% per annum in the last 10 years.
